5 Days Maasai Mara Wildebeest Migration Safari (August)

Depart Nairobi at 07:00 via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint (photo stop). Arrive Mara camp by midday for lunch and a camp orientation. At 15:30, embark on your first afternoon game drive, scanning the river banks for wildebeest columns building up for a crossing and spotting resident prides of lions in the Mara Triangle.

Rise before dawn (05:30) for a pre-breakfast game drive along the Mara River. Watch as thousands of animals plunge into the river, battling currents and waiting Nile crocodiles.

Cross the Mara River at the Serena Bridge into the exclusive Mara Triangle, less crowded and home to the highest lion and elephant density in the reserve. Spend the morning tracking a resident leopard family and observing large elephant breeding herds. Return for lunch. Optional: pre-book a sunrise hot-air balloon flight (additional cost) over the triangle for an aerial view of wildebeest columns.

After breakfast, drive to a traditional Maasai manyatta for a 2-hour community visit. Be welcomed with song and dance, learn about traditional herbal medicine, archery, and the Maasai warrior age-set system. Purchase handcrafted jewellery directly from artisans. After lunch, head into the adjacent Ol Kinyei Conservancy, a community-owned area bordering the reserve.

One last sunrise game drive (05:30–08:30) to savour the early morning golden light on the Mara grasslands. Return to camp for a full cooked breakfast and pack-down. Depart by 09:30, stopping at the Great Rift Valley escarpment for a final panoramic photograph. Arrive Nairobi by 14:00–15:00. Drop-offs at JKIA Airport.
